Simple Guide in Creating Woodpecker Feeders

It doesn’t mean that because it is called woodpecker bird feeders, woodpeckers only get to enjoy it. In any case, if you are interested to have one, you need to know some of the basic things that involve bird feeding and feeders. In the process, you will now know what steps to take in setting up your own birds’ feeder.

There are two options for acquiring woodpecker feeders wherein you can buy them at a local store or build one yourself. If you intend to create one, some of the basic materials that you need are pieces of wood, pointed saw to make holes and some nails. This can be some kind of a carpentry project for you.

Mesh wires can replace wood if you don't like sawing and cutting up wood. What you need to do with the mesh wires is to loop it around in order to create a space for the woodpecker's food.

To setup a bird house feeder, particularly woodpecker bird feeders, you need to take some time in order to find out which tree branch will give a full view for the feeder. Choosing a big branch is an option for woodpeckers to have a wider space. Also consider that the area should not be attractive to other birds so that birds wouldn’t cluster altogether. Basically, you need power drill, twines and bird house to finally build even your own window bird feeder. Once you have chosen the tree branch of your choice, use the power drill to bore hole into it. Make sure that the twines can easily pass through the holes.

After inserting the ropes, elevate the bird feeder into your preferred height. Then, you may now fill it up with peanuts, raisins and all other bird goodies that you want. If the location of the woodpecker feeders is too high, it may be necessary to use a ladder every time you would need to clean and refill it. You also need to make sure that the twines or the ropes that you used on the woodpecker feeders are tight enough. Just to make sure, you may tie it in two separate places for more support. To test if these supports are strong enough, tug them lightly. This ends the building of your woodpecker feeders. To see if there is anything that you need to adjust on the feeder, take a few steps back away from the tree branch. If you think that you might need to do adjustments, you may certainly do so. As a result, this will attract more woodpeckers to enjoy your feeders. It is important that you leave the woodpeckers alone once they start eating those nuts and seeds from your feeders because you might scare them away. You can probably take pictures from afar to enjoy the sight of woodpeckers gathered up your feeders.

Handling woodpecker bird feeders are not hard as it seems. All you need is a small brush to clean and sweep away the dirt on the feeder. Keep in mind that having a neat and tidy feeder would attract woodpeckers more to come back for your treats.
